According to the National Association of REALTORS®, 20% of recent home buyers factored in their pet’s needs when choosing a neighborhood. Popular features include custom feeding stations, pet washing areas, and proximity to parks or open spaces.

Pet-Inspired Home Renovations

Pets are also influencing renovation trends. Nearly half of pet owners prioritize their pets when upgrading their homes, according to recent home improvement surveys. Common trends include scratch-resistant flooring, pet-friendly landscaping, and custom features like built-in feeding stations or “catios” for cats.

The Challenges of Pet Ownership

Though pets bring joy, they can also cause wear and tear on homes. Nearly 75% of pet owners have replaced household items due to pet damage —­­­­­­­ with carpets, furniture, and door frames being common victims. However, many buyers are willing to invest in pet-friendly homes, and many said they would increase their offer for one.
